hi Stacy, where are you going in the Greatland? What kinds of activities are you hoping to do? That time of year is beautiful, though can be getting chilly, so start with lots of layers for all of you. And make sure to practice whatever you’re planning to do wherever you are in advance.
In Denali, you can get a backcountry permit and get off the bus anywhere to camp just off of the road, or just take day hikes and jump back on the bus when you’re through! Around Anchorage easy to do day hikes out of Glen Allen…let us know where you’re heading and what your hopes are!
Heading to Alaska in Sept 2012 with an 18 month old and a 3 1/2 year old, looking for recommendations/tips. Thanks!

This is the packing list our family uses for WA and AK trips: http://kidsinthewoods.com/packing-list/ and here’s our post on some of the gear we’ve enjoyed: http://kidsinthewoods.com/2011/07/getting-the-gear/
Let us know how we can help more specifically- by managing your expectations, you can have a great time with your young family getting out in Alaska!
